ABOUT THE FOOD HARVEST


The Heart of the Hills Food Harvest Inc. is a not for profit volunteer organization, registered with the state of Missouri amd has Federal 501-c-3 not for profit status.

Heart of the Hills Food Harvest is set up as an intermediate system of helping families who fall short of finances, those between jobs, the unemployed, those laid off but unable to draw benefits, those with major medical bills, people trying to survive on minimum wages, and our senior population living on fixed incomes. In addition to food the pantry also provides hygienic supplies, which are important needs not provided for in the food stamp program.

Board meetings are held on a monthly basis and are open to the public. The meeting dates are set at the previous months meeting, if you would like to attend a board meeting contact the director for the date and time of the next meeting.

SERVICES


Food Pantry: Open to provide food supplies and hygienic items on a one time only, or monthly basis to those in need (see elegibility guidelines). Pantry items are provided by civic organizations, churches, and personal donations, in addition to food that is purchased through grants.

Thrift Store: Open to the public to purchase good useable clothing, furniture and appliances. Also provides clothing, furniture and small appliances to those with immediate needs such as burn out victims. Items in the Thrift Store are donated by our community.

ELIGIBILITY


Low Income: Department of Family Services basic guidelines.

Senior Applicants: Those on fixed incomes who receive a minimal amount of food stamps and who sometimes have medical expenses that absorb a majority of there funds.

People With Medical Expenses: Those with medical problems and expenses or in temporary crisis, who need immediate assistance with food, clothing or items normally provided by the Food Harvest.

Immediate Need Applicants: Burn out victims, between jobs or family crisis.

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS


Anyone can be a Food Harvest Volunteer all you need is the desire to help others and you are qualified. To volunteer call Debbie Ducommun at (417) 683-3717 or Director Sue Younge at (417) 683-6400.

Thrift Store: Volunteers needed on Mondays, Thrusdays and Fridays, plus the first Saturday of each month. This position carries many responsibilities like sorting clothing, stocking or arranging the shelves and racks in the thrift store, as needed by the director. This position can be worked by the day, week, month or hour with advanced notice given to the director or volunteer coordinator.

Food Pantry: Volunteers needed Mondays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. These positions include re-packaging foods, shelf stocking, bagging and weighing foods and hygienics for distribution and clean up of the kitchen area.

On Call: Volunteers needed to assist with unloading and shelf stocking when shipments of food arrive once or twice a month. Volunteers are also needed occasionally to help in moving and lifting the heavy items in the pantry and thrift areas as well as maintenance in both areas.

Vehicles: The Food Harvest is always in need of the use of trucks and trailers to pick up monthly food supplies from Springfield and pick up large items in town that have been donated to the thrift shop.

DONATIONS


Good used clothing, furniture, appliances or other useable items are always accepted and may be left in the 24 hr drop off bin behind the building. For larger items, arrangements should be made in advance with the director as to when and where the item can be dropped off.

Food donations should be made through the director and arranged for in advance.

Monetary donations always accepted and a tax deductible receipt is available upon request.
