Mission/Vision
The mission statement for First Southern Baptist Church is "Committed to Christ, Committed to people." We believe that our commitment is first to Christ as the Savior from our sins and commitment to Christ as Lord of our life-in our decisions, in our attitudes. As an outgrowth of that we are committed to loving, caring, sharing the Good News - with people in our church, the Ava community and then the world. Our mission statement that will drive and spearhead all our work is "Committed to Christ, Committed to People." As a church it should be foremost on our minds of what we are about. Most successful organizations have mission statements. For Nike, it is "Just do it"; at Ford, "Quality is Job 1," Saturn is "A Different Kind of Car Company". Each statement says a lot about the organization. Ours says we care about the Lord and people! Evangelism 
We have recently formed a missions committee to begin planning our involvement for missions in 1999 and beyond. After an initial meeting with the committee, we believe we can have a significant impact in the local community. We will know more as the plans develop-please stay tuned as the committee develops a practical yet fulfilling strategy for 1999. |
Somehow we would go in either in two's or three's calling on visitors to our church, sharing our faith or other practical ways of telling people about Christ. There is nothing more exciting than sharing your faith in Christ and seeing someone come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ! We are looking forward for the Lord's guidance and leading in this arena so that we can impact our world here in Ava and fulfill The Great Commission. Worship 
We offer three worship services during the week. The first and biggest experience is usually the Sunday morning service. We have a mix of hymns and choruses that we sing to honor and glorify God. He is worthy of our praise and that is the focal point of the service. We also pray, preach, and give our tithes as an act of worship. Discipleship 
Sunday School is a marvelous time of discipleship as believers are built up in their faith, their Biblical knowledge and practical application of the Bible. We have a fantastic Sunday School program going on. Keep up the Great work you teachers! Keep using the Bible and applying it's teachings to your life. Pastor Brad has been deeply encouraged by all the Sunday School classes and the tremendous opportunities for growth. |
